If you’re dealing with nausea and it feels worse in the summer heat, you’re not imagining it. For many women, morning sickness and hot weather don’t mix well. Whether you know you are pregnant or you are still trying to figure it out, this post is for you.

Why Summer Can Make Nausea Feel Worse:

Woman in a blue robe sits on a bathroom floor, hand on forehead, eyes closed, near a toilet. The room has white walls, evoking stress.

When it is hot and humid, your body is already working harder to stay cool. Add in pregnancy-related changes like hormones and a more sensitive stomach, and things can get uncomfortable fast. You might feel dizzy or extra tired. You might feel sick even without eating anything.

It’s okay if your body is not handling the heat the way it usually does. That doesn‘t mean something is wrong. It just means you might need to take it slower for a while.

What Can Help:

Here are a few ways to ease the nausea while keeping yourself and your baby safe:

Stay Hydrated

Sip water throughout the day. If plain water doesn‘t sit well, try lemon water, herbal tea, or ice chips.

Eat Small Meals

An empty stomach can make nausea worse. Keep easy snacks nearby like crackers, toast or applesauce.

Stay Cool

Use a fan, spend time in the shade or stay inside during the hottest part of the day (typically 10am–2pm).

Avoid Strong Smells

Grills, perfumes and even sunscreen can trigger nausea. Try using unscented products if possible.

Give Yourself Permission to Rest

It’s okay to cancel plans or take a nap if you need it. You are doing important work even when you are sitting still!
